Fresh Cut Fillers for Bouquets and Flower Arrangements

Filler flowers are the smaller accent blooms, textured stems, and greenery used to complete a floral arrangement. They help fill open spaces, soften the shape of a bouquet, and make focal flowers like roses, hydrangeas, lilies, peonies, and ranunculus stand out.

Popular filler flowers include baby’s breath, statice, limonium, asters, stock, hypericum, bupleurum, ammi majus, Bells of Ireland, thistle, waxflower-style accents, and fresh greenery such as eucalyptus, ruscus, leather leaf, and tree fern. White filler flowers are often used for weddings and classic arrangements, while green, blue, purple, pink, and yellow fillers can add contrast, texture, and seasonal color.

Using Filler Flowers for DIY Weddings and Events

For DIY wedding flowers, filler flowers are useful in bridal bouquets, bridesmaid bouquets, centerpieces, ceremony arrangements, bud vases, garlands, and floral installations. If you want a lush, garden-style look, combine focal flowers with both greenery and filler flowers so the arrangement feels full instead of sparse.

How Many Filler Flowers Do I Need?

The right amount depends on the size and style of your arrangements. As a general rule, use more filler flowers for loose garden-style designs, rustic arrangements, and centerpieces, and less filler for compact rose or hydrangea arrangements. For large events, ordering a mix of greenery and filler flowers gives you more flexibility when designing.

When Should Filler Flowers Arrive?

Most fresh filler flowers should arrive 2 to 3 days before your event so they have time to hydrate and open. Some hardy greenery and accent flowers can arrive a little earlier, while more delicate items should be kept hydrated, cool, and away from direct heat or sunlight.
